Supplemental Video 1.
Octopoteuthis deletron autotomizes 2 arms onto a bottle-brush that is attached to an arm of the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) 'Ventana' on October 22, 2008, at 830 m depth. The 2 arms remain attached to the bottle-brush, and then 1 arm detaches and thrashes for 10 s before ceasing movement. The terminal photophore of the thrashing arm is white, therefore it is presumably bioluminescent.
