BUGS code for the model described in the text. As much as BUGS syntax allows, the code follows the presentation in the text. Data are shown in abbreviated form and consist of: (1) some constants and a vector of k depths (12 here) at which functions N(k) and P(k) will be computed; (2) perpendicular distance, sea state and group size for each of the 44 sightings; (3) effort, mean sea state and number of sightings for each of the 531 cells with non-zero effort; and (4) mean depth and water area of each of the 992 cells, with the first 531 corresponding to the cells with non-zero effort.
